Emily Brontë was born on 30 July 1818 to Maria Branwell and an Irish father, Patrick Brontë. She was the sister of Charlotte and Anne Brontë, also famous authors. After the death of their mother in 1821, the children were left very much to themselves in the bleak moorland rectory. The children were educated, during their early life, at home, except for a single year that Charlotte and Emily spent at the Clergy Daughters’ School in Lancashire.
