Description

A hand-colored antique bird print of an adult parrot, showing lower left that De Seve was the artist. From a series of 10 volumes by among others The Comte de Buffon (one of the greatest naturalists of his ag e) Historie Naturelle de Oiseux, published in Paris 1770-1786. This great work came out in later editions, but it's only in the original, "grand-papier" folio edition that its birds and their settings are particularly large and the artistry and coloring superb, the very best of Buffon we think. Here a still unknown parrot, labeled “le Papegai maillé ” and as plate XII, showing on lower left that De Seve was the artist. From the series described above by the Count de Buffon, ca. 7 ¼” x 10” and in excellent condition, with only a small spot at bottom that will be covered by a mat. $125
