Superb large Victorian Etruscan Revival brooch–pendant , crafted in tested 18ct yellow gold , of elegant oval form , richly decorated with fine granulation and twisted rope motifs . At the center is set a finely carved orange coral sculpture depicting Eros, the god of love , rendered with remarkable detail and vitality. Italian , possibly Rome or Naples , and executed in the manner of celebrated 19th-century goldsmiths such as Castellani, Giuliano, or Melillo . Mid-19th century , circa 1850–1860 .
