He had a very successful career as a freelance photographer working in fashion, society, advertising and commercial work. Widely published: "Vogue," "Harper's Bazaar," "Vanity Fair," "The New York Times." Between 1920 and 1940 he made over 10,000 portraits including many of his lover, Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, wife of Mexican muralist painter Diego Rivera.
