Japan Hearth Hook JIZAIKAGI Tea Ceremony Antique Brass Tea Utensil Edo Meiji Description Japanese Hearth Hook (Jizaikagi) Tea Ceremony Antique Brass Tea Utensil Irori This jizaikagi (traditional adjustable hearth hook) dates from the late Edo to early Meiji period(approximately mid-1800s to early 1900s). It is said to have originally come from the home of a wealthy farming family in Hokkaido. Due to the shortage of iron during that era, the main body was crafted from brass, while only the ring at the tip is made of iron. The decorative parts at the bottom feature "Senryo Koban" (千両小判), a traditional oval gold coin, and "Uchide-no-Kozuchi" (打ち出の小槌), the legendary lucky treasure hammer. Both are auspicious symbols believed to bring financial fortune. The kanji characters 【千両】 are read as Senryo. Please note: The first photo is for illustrative purposes only, showing usage example.
