JPL Pouyat Limoges Plate 9 3/4" Multi-Color Hand Painted Floral w/Gold 1906-1932 Elegant Decorative 8.5" PLATE from JPL (Jean Pouyat) Limoges, France HAND PAINTED by a Talented Studio Artist Beautiful Collection of Various FLOWERS w/GREEN LEAVES circa early 1906-1932 DESCRIPTION: This plate was designed in a very classic pattern with hand painted flowers and green leaves by a talented studio artist. DIMENSIONS: The plate has a diameter of 8.5"" and a height of 1". HISTORY/MARKS: The Pouyat family was one of the oldest French names associated with the porcelain in the Limoges region dating all the way back to the 1700’s. Jean Pouyat began a company in 1842 at Limoges and the business was carried on by his sons after his death in 1849. About 1883, the company became known as La Ceramique. The now famous JPL backstamps were used beginning in 1851. The plate has the green underglaze manufacturer's mark #5 (Mary Frank Gaston's Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3rd edition) which was used 1890-1932. It also has the green overglaze decorator's mark #8 which was used 1906-1932. This seems to point to the time of production to be circa 1906-1932.
