The grouping of artist portfolio and promotional pieces for representation include two catalog style pieces showcasing Van de Bovenkamp's works, both with opening remarks written by him, as well as an advertising postcard from the Nina Owen Gallery in Chicago, and a hand written letter addressed to a man named Ira discussing Van de Bovenkamp seeking "loving representation" for his artworks. This is a truly inspiring package of items that came from the massive collection belonging to Jennifer Licht who was the Associate Curator of Painting and Sculpture at The Museum of Modern Art in New York from 1968-1975. During her tenure she also installed exhibitions. Hans Van de Bovenkamp is a renowned Dutch-born sculptor who has made significant contributions to contemporary abstract art. Born in Garderen, Holland in 1938, Van de Bovenkamp immigrated to the United States as a young man. He studied architecture at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor from 1959 to 1961, after initially attending the School of Architecture in Amsterdam in 1958. Van de Bovenkamp is best known for his monumental sculptures created primarily for open-air public spaces. His work is characterized by large-scale abstract forms in materials such as bronze, stainless steel, painted steel, and aluminum. Over the past 55 years, he has designed, fabricated, and installed more than 100 unique commissioned sculptures and fountains in collaboration with architects, cities, museums, and private individuals. Van de Bovenkamp was part of the avant-garde Tenth Street scene in New York City during the 1960s and was influenced by Abstract Expressionism. His artistic style has been described as lyrical and grand in proportion, often incorporating elements inspired by mythology, symbols, and dreams.
