Hans Figura Signed Etching (Pair of 2) Paris Scenes Vintage Matching Frames RARE. TheCafé des Deux Magots etching is gradedExcellent- with only one small foxing spot visible in the upper right margin. The second etching. The second etching depicts thePalace of Justice by the River Seine, complete with a vibrantflower market scene. Offered here is a charming matched pair of hand-colored etchings by Hans Figura (Austrian, 1898–1978), widely recognized for his finely etched and aquatint-colored European city scenes. These are believed to be silk aquatints or aquatint/drypoint etchings with watercolor washes, a method Figura employed heavily in the 1940s to early 1950s. The first etching captures the Saint-Germain-des-Prés quarter of Paris with the famed Café des Deux Magots in the foreground. Figures bustle under umbrellas amid early automobiles on a rain-slicked street. The second etching depicts the Palace of Justice by the River Seine, complete with a vibrant flower market scene. This composition is known in other catalogs as part of an edition of 150, though the full pencil inscription may be hidden beneath the mat. Each print is signed by the artist in graphite and bears his characteristic oval “Figura” monogram stamp in the lower margin. *Please Note: This artwork is presented in its original vintage mount. In order to preserve the integrity of the backing and matting, the print has not been removed for inspection . As such, it is unknown whether the piece has been dry mounted, taped, or hinged to the backing board. Some vintage prints may exhibit signs of adhesive aging or mat burn common to works mounted in this era. Condition Summary: The Café des Deux Magots etching is graded Excellent- with only one small foxing spot visible in the upper right margin. The second etching, Palace of Justice, is graded Very Good- due to widespread foxing throughout the print, some minor mount waviness, and a small chip in the inner lip of the frame. Both pieces remain tightly framed, and the vintage wood frames are structurally intact and visually appealing, with age-appropriate wear.
