This book of nearly 200 old photographs is the first publication to look equally at developments that took place in the late nineteenth century and early twentieth centuries in Upper, West and South Norwood. The book looks first at the Palace and its ground in detail and another, earlier tourist attraction, Beulah Spa. The three Norwoods are examined in geographical order, making it an easy take to compare their development with the existing modern suburbs. Most of the photographs used have never before appeared in print. Many of the old images used here are taken from picture postcards and the author introduces some novel suggestions about the dating of examples from this useful source of archival material. He also describes a mysterious underground railway built in the Palace grounds in the 1860s and excavated in 1989. The book includes pictures of the Crystal Palace High Level Station, demolished in 1961, and devotes a space to the Sunnybank estate, which was surrounded by a bend in the old Croydon Canal. He also tries to identify a mysterious bearded photographer who lived in Woodside in the 1980s. There was a delay in shipping b/c book was damaged that they wanted to ship & they had to find another one to replace it. So it took 2 weeks to receive. The book received was in the "very good" condition as stated. I've bought from this seller many times and never received a junk book as I have from other seller's. This is a great 💿 for my collection and I am a big fan of the band Budgie! The price was spot on and ordered it quickly but it took a long time to arrive, almost a month. The shipping envelope was a generic brown bag with no bubble wrap or protection for the CD cases. The item arrived with the case broken, so not as advertised, very good. But luckily the 💿 was not damaged. I took photos of the broken case and sent them to the seller. I was happy with their prompt response and solution
