Author Biography When he was just 18, Gerry's life changed forever; he became a Franciscan monk and priest: a far-reaching commitment to a very different way of life. John McCann "died" and was "reborn" as Friar Gerry, robed in a celibate monk's long grey habit. It was a massive personal transformation. For the next 40 years he devoted himself to his religious vocation: a life of love and service of others, following the example of Saint Francis of Assisi. He faced countless challenges in his work as a Pastor, Preacher, Healer, Teacher, Writer and Author, University Lecturer, and Missionary in Central America. This demanding life-style tested all his reserves and strength: physical, mental, emotional. As a 'spiritual soldier', he developed massive self-discipline and strength of character, overcoming negativity, self-doubt, fear, mediocrity, laziness, and ignorance.
