Description

This suit of armor was carefully crafted by a skilled artisan using traditional techniques that have been passed down since ancient times in Japan. Note: This armor is for display only. It cannot be worn. This is not for full-size. The name of the armor craftsman is Kousin. The name of the suit of armor is “Sengoku Busho Ooyoroi (Sengoku Era Warlord Large Armor)”. Kousin's armor is a luxurious style with rough, yet gorgeous and delicate metal engraving work applied in various places, and it pursues a high level of finish in every detail. The armor created by Koutatsu is a gorgeous expression of the Japanese spirit, and it can be said to be a comprehensive traditional craftwork that combines techniques such as metalworking, lacquerwork, dyed leather, and braided leather. The dazzling gold parts are made of pure gold. The thick silk thread that connects the pieces of armor is called “odoshi”, and this armor uses beautiful red odoshi. Even the cloth used for each part uses the gold thread Kyoto dyeing technique of the ancient capital Kyoto. The lion on the helmet is made with gold leaf pressing, and it is the highest quality armor. This suit of armor is a reproduction of a suit from the Warring States period (1467-1573) based on thorough historical research by armor craftsmen. The Warring States period (1467-1573) was a time when powerful warlords held sway in various parts of Japan, and many battles were fought throughout the country. The powerful warlords of various parts of Japan were also known as Warring States Daimyo, and they ruled the regions they controlled by creating their own laws. The Warring States period lasted for around 100 years, but eventually the forces of Oda, Toyotomi and Tokugawa emerged to unify the whole of Japan, and under the shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu, the course of history shifted to the Edo period (1603-1868), a period of peace that lasted for around 260 years. Japanese armor is attracting attention in countries around the world as a symbol of the dignity of the samurai and as a work of art.
