Description

size : W21.3in D19.3in H32.5in A Yoroibitsu is a traditional Japanese storage and carrying chest used for armor—particularly for suits of samurai armor including the helmet (kabuto), cuirass (dō), and other components. It was commonly used from the Sengoku period through the Edo period. • Structure: Typically made of sturdy wood, often in a rectangular or hexagonal shape. Many have handles or ropes for easier transportation. • Decoration: The exterior is often decorated with family crests (kamon), lacquer finishes, and metal fittings, reflecting the owner’s social status and aesthetic sense. Highly ornamental ones were used for official processions or ceremonial purposes. • Practicality: Designed to perfectly store a full set of armor. Used both for transportation to battlefields and for storage in castles or residences. Today, yoroibitsu can be seen in museums and private collections as containers for armor displays. Their decorative craftsmanship also makes them prized as antique furniture or interior pieces. A yoroibitsu was like a trunk case for samurai—a vessel that carried both weaponry and dignity into battle and ceremony. Thank you for visiting!
