Description
Antique Sheffield Sterling Silver Fruit Knife Mother of Pearl Handle Hallmarked JN Victorian 1890-1910 Antique Victorian sterling silver fruit knife with mother-of-pearl scales. • Closed length: approximately 3 3/8 inches • Genuine sterling silver blade with British hallmarks • Sheffield assay mark and maker’s mark “JN” • Mother-of-pearl handle scales with inset cartouche This elegant folding fruit knife was produced in Sheffield, England in the late Victorian to early Edwardian period (circa 1890–1910). Sterling silver blades were commonly used for fruit knives because they resist corrosion from fruit acids. The handle features attractive natural mother-of-pearl scales with a rectangular cartouche panel. Condition: antique condition consistent with age. The blade shows surface wear and light tarnish. There is a small amount of blade wobble and the blade sits slightly proud when closed. Please review photographs carefully. Sold as is. A classic example of a Victorian gentleman’s pocket fruit knife and a nice addition to a collection of antique silver or vintage cutlery. Beautiful find!
