Rare original Victorian / Edwardian GPO (General Post Office) telegraph / telephone line tester – Model No. 7149. Beautifully made instrument with a solid brass cylindrical body, thick early glass, and a mahogany wooden base. The mechanism inside is intact and complete, showing the early needle-coil galvanometer system used by GPO engineers for line calibration, fault detection and spacing/marking adjustments. The markings read: G.P.O 7149 on the brass plate, and the base still retains its original terminals and early cloth wiring. Cosmetic signs of age, patina and some wear as expected. Sold as found, untested, for restoration or display. A superb collector’s piece of early British telegraph history.
