Description
Stunning Antique Art Nouveau Limoges France decorative plates. Beautiful gilded poppy design. These plates were made in France by Limoges for Elite Works Saint Martial. Elite Works S.M. had established a factory near Limoges to decorate the blank porcelain plates that Limoges manufactured, so these plates bear two backstamps, the "Elite L France" (used from 1896 - 1920) and the red "Elite Works SM Limoges France Stamp" (used from 1920 - 1932). We can say with certainty that these plates were made in 1920. For even more history, a NYC firm called Bawo & Dotter (founded 1860) likely had these plates commissioned for import to the United States. These plates are hand painted and are signed by the artist. There are some condition issues with chips and some rubbing on the paint, see details below. These plates are STUNNING works of gilded age art and while not perfect, I think they will make someone very happy. Measurements: 7.25" Diameter Condition: All of the plates show light loss of color from improper storage (in the form of rubbing - so tragic, always store your hand painted plates properly!). This is fairly minor and exist to varying degrees on the plates. I do not think it significantly detracts from the design but they are not perfect. One of the plates has no chips, three have small chips on the backside that are not visible from the top, and two plates have chips that are visible from above - although one of these plates has literally one chip that is the size of a pinhead (I like to be forthcoming and honest in my descriptions!). Please message me if you would like more photos, I'd be happy to do so.
