Where going the turbo route often meant tons of fabrication it was often easier to add a supercharger kit or even add a nitrous plate to your engine previously. Much of that has changed though with complete turbo kits for popular chassis/engine applications, and numerous hot side installation kits for popular setups like . But what if you don’t have something popular engine or chassis wise because you like to build stuff that others don’t? Well, then you’re going to have to plan your turbo build out, choosing the appropriate bits for your chassis, engine, and power level desired. Obviously, choosing the itself is a great starting point, as that will determine hot and cold side tubing diameters, sizing, and more. One aspect of building a custom turbo setup is connecting the turbo’s turbine inlet to your exhaust system. There are various weld on T4 turbo flange to 3-inch pipe options available, however these transitions may not place the turbo in the correct location for your engine compartment’s workspace. Using a T4 flange that incorporates a tight 90-degree bend not only provides more mounting options, but when utilizing the infinite adjustability of a V-band connection your turbo placement options are almost limitless. T4 to V-Band Connection Provides Custom Mounting Solution for Your Turbo Build In custom turbo installations, especially where under hood room is at a premium, being able to place the turbo exactly where you need it for fitment and/or plumbing needs is paramount. Often in these cases pre-made turbo manifolds or headers will not work due to interference with the chassis or other components and custom 3-inch hot side plumbing must be utilized to feed the turbo in the location you’ve chosen for it to live. In these instances, utilizing a T4 turbo flange to 3-inch pipe adapter is mandated. However, you can improve on this configuration by going to a T4 to V-band connection, and yet another step to a 90-degree V-band elbow. Moving directly to the T4 to V-band elbow provides for quick and easy removal of the turbo for engine service by simply unbolting the versus having to unbolt the turbo’s turbine housing from the T3/T4 turbo flange directly. The V-band connection also offers superior sealing while also providing the ability to clock the turbo flange and/or make up for small misalignments in your turbo’s outlet connections. Premium 304 Stainless Steel Construction Resists Corrosion and Provides Years of Service Our 90-degree V-band elbow for the T3/T4 turbo flange begins as a one piece casting (no TIG welds to fail due to heat or high vibration) that is then CNC machined. The 90-degree V-band elbow inlet is machined for the included adapter ring that requires welding to your 3-inch exhaust, which is then secured by the included 3-inch stainless steel V-band clamp. The tight radius of the 90-degree elbow allows for a compact turbo installation, while the adapter’s outlet is machined for use with both T3 and T4 flange patterns. The large outlet pattern (1.977” x 3.020”) ensures plenty of exhaust flow to your turbo’s turbine inlet for easier transition of exhaust flow for faster spool up. Premium hardware with flanged nuts, split washers, and M10-1.5 bolts is included to keep your project moving forward.
