Journal of Second Expedition into the Interior of Africa, From the Bight of Benin to Soccatoo. 1829. Hugh Clapperton. Carey, Lea & Carey 1829 Philadelphia. 1st US edition. Very rare book, with map of the route included at front, as issued. Appendix includes an interesting meteorologic table, a "Vocabulary of the Yourriba Tongue", and weather observations during the travel. Minor wear to cover, edges and corners - see photos. Antique library label on spine and sticker inside front cover (see photos). Page foxing throughout. Map is attached and complete but has 2 tears; one small and one larger - see photo. Back cover has scrape to leather - see photo. Approximately 8-3/4" x 5-3/4" x 1-1/2" thick.
